Father’s Day is the one day of the year that the focus is on the man who gave life to you. There are many ways to show how much you love your dad, and many ways to show appreciation, and the simple truth is, they don’t have to be elaborate or expensive. Your father will appreciate the gift regardless of what it is, just because it comes from you:
–One of the simplest things you can do is make a phone call. Visiting him face to face may not be something you can do, due to distance or job responsibilities, or even your travel budget. But picking up the phone and making a special call on Father’s Day truly is the next best thing to being there. If it’s been a while since you’ve spoken, don’t worry, just start talking, and the conversation will flow naturally. Give him updates on your job, your family, your leisure time; and ask him for updates on his.
–If your schedule and budget permit travel, then go see him in person, and take a nice gift along with you, something that doesn’t have to be expensive but still shows you care, like a gift basket of his favorite things.
What kind of gift basket? Well, think about his personality, his hobbies, his passions. What does he like to do in his spare time? Does he collect coins or stamps? Maybe you could get him a new one that he doesn’t even know about yet.
Does he like to read? Get him the latest book by his favorite author.
Does he like to fish? Give him some new fishing gear.
You can also include some of his favorite foods and drinks in the gift basket. Is it coffee? Tea? Chocolate? Nuts? Cheese and meat?
–Give him a gift card to his favorite store, and take him there so he can buy whatever he wants. Some people take a dim view of gift cards, but in reality, most people like to get them as gifts. That way, the recipient can get what they want. This doesn’t have to be the only gift. It can be tucked inside a Father’s Day card to go in the gift basket as well.
–Give him a new video game. This could be a PC game or one in the box. If you’re stuck for ideas, just visit a website with reviews and free downloads to try, and this will help make your decision-making easier.
–Another idea is to take him to a nice restaurant. When was the last time you shared a good meal and good conversation together?
As you can see, it doesn’t take a lot of money to make Father’s Day special, just a little time and effort.
